This is the fifth installment in our series “Tips for a sustainable weekend getaway”. Every three weeks a new green idea will be featured on our blog!

“I really need some time off,” says one. “Oh yeah, let’s get away for a weekend,” says the other. Is that you and your best friend? Then you’ve come to the right place! At Hotel Klosterbräu in Seefeld, Tyrol, friends often travel together – preferably for a yoga weekend. Find out what such a weekend could look like and how to make it sustainable.

Yoga retreat in the Tyrolean Alps

The Hotel Klosterbräu in the Tyrolean vacation region of Seefeld is located within 500-year-old monastery walls and has been run by the Seyrling family for over 200 years. Nine members of the family work in various areas of the 5-star hotel and pour their hearts and souls into it. Including into the various retreats.

“It is important to note that a yoga retreat here is very comfortable and not too hectic,” explains Daniel Wolf of Hotel Klosterbräu. There are still 9 retreat dates available this year at the sustainably managed wellness hotel.

The yoga team includes the host family’s Laura Seyrling-Rieß. She also manages the spa and wellness area and loves her job.

The trained Vinyasa Flow teacher brings lots of music and fun to her YOU ARE YOUNIQUE retreats.

“Every retreat is a little different,” says Daniel Wolf. But lets take the YOU ARE YOUNIQUE retreat as an example. A great retreat to do with your best friend as it’s all about movement and fun. However, you shouldn’t be an absolute beginner because not all positions are practiced and corrected individually.

If you are looking for a yoga retreat that focuses more on the inner self and includes meditation and mindfulness, look no further than Karina Wagner’s retreats. Having traveled extensively throughout Asia, yoga is a way of life for her.

Thursday: The long weekend with your best friend starts on Thursday. As a Green PearlsⓇ partner, Klosterbräu will help you get there eco-friendly by train. The Seefeld train station is only a 3-minute walk from the hotel and as a bonus, you can use e-bikes for free during your stay.

You can arrive from 3pm. While your luggage is being taken to your room, you will be given a tour of the hotel by the reception team.

At 5pm you will meet Laura and at 6:30pm there will be the first “get to know you” yoga session. The great thing about a retreat weekend is that you get to know other people in the group and make new connections.

At 7pm, an aperitif awaits you in the wine cellar before dinner.

Friday:

08:00 – 08:25 a.m. Quiet morning walk with breathing exercises.

8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Inside Flow Yoga (with Laura)

Afterwards you will have breakfast together. Then spend the rest of the morning and lunch in the spa area: Take a sauna, swim and relax in the large garden area.

Another aspect that makes this yoga retreat sustainable is the food. Hotel Klosterbräu runs its own vegetarian farm, so many products are sourced directly from the operation. All other products are local, avoiding long-distance transportation and using as little packaging as possible. Furthermore, most of the food is organic.

In addition to half-board, Klosterbräu also offers free snacks such as fresh fruit or cake at various self-serve locations. Hospitality is the key here.

A weekend of relaxation

This should be the kind of weekend where you feel comfortable. You’ve had a great time together, you’ve finally been able to have a really long talk, you’ve been to the spa, you’ve been surrounded by beautiful nature, you’ve eaten delicious food, you’ve exercised a lot, and you’ve done something for your (mental) health. Thanks to the hotel’s sustainable focus, and combined with an eco-friendly trip, you were also able to reduce your carbon footprint for such a weekend. Perfect 🙂
