What does your ideal sustainable vacation look like?

For us, a vacation by the sea is at the top of the list. And perfect for that is a stay at Gili Lankanfushi. The 45 villas are located in the middle of the sea in the Maldives. Whether diving, snorkeling, or surfing: Here, all your ocean dreams will come true.

Multilingual, experienced instructors offer day and night dives and courses for all levels. As one of the most environmentally friendly dive centers in Asia, the team takes conservation very seriously — you can even take part in a science dive and collect data for organizations like SharkWatch and the Manta Trust.

For those who have never dived before, a Discover Scuba Diving course is a great option. This basic course also lasts only three hours. Especially interesting: Divers can see Manta Rays at the Gili Lankanfushi pretty much all year round.

Colorful variation in the shallow water

Who prefers to stay in slightly shallower water, the richness, and diversity in the shimmering waters surrounding the resort will surprise you. Even from the edge of the boardwalks at the resort, you can spot small sharks and schools of colorful fish in the sea.

Put on your snorkel mask and a pair of fins, and you’re ready to venture to the 15-meter deep drop-off at the edge of the resort. Exploring the dazzling coral walls is like swimming in an aquarium, and you’ll almost certainly see a few turtles and rays.

The resident marine biologists offer a variety of guided day and night excursions. In the right season, you can even see giant manta rays up close. Snorkelers get to see these majestic Manta Rays during the monsoon season.

As the monsoon season sets in, the Gili Lankanfushi offers New Moon and Full Moon Manta snorkels (organized by Ocean Paradise) for the season. They are led by their resident marine biologists. New moon and full moon tides bring in an abundance of plankton to the reefs on the East side of the atoll, thus the chance to snorkel with these feeding mantas are very high. At the Gili Lankanfushi you have sightings of mantas on snorkel, dive, and surf trips throughout the year.

For beginners, the resort offers lessons, and those who are already experienced can explore the blue lagoon at their leisure.

For adrenaline lovers, wakeboarding, water skiing, fun tubing and private speedboat rides are also available.

If you are interested in the science behind marine biology, you should visit the marine research facility at Gili Lankanfushi: the Gili Veshi. In the local Dhivehi language, this means “Gili Environment.” The center for all sustainability and conservation issues and offers guests a variety of new experiences.
