Our eco-hotels show daily travel and sustainability can be combined. This is made possible by the people behind the scenes, who put their heart and soul into creating a greener planet – we introduce you to them in our new series.
In the third part, we visit the Maira Valley in Piedmont: Spared by the huge tourist masses, you will find typical Occitan and Piedmontese culture, cuisine and breathtaking nature. It is a perfect place for those looking for peace and serenity and who love hiking, mountain biking, and all outdoor activities in the Alps.
Regular blog readers probably stumbled across this special valley before in our articles. Locanda Mistral is an authentic and beautiful accommodation in the Italian mountains, which has been welcoming guests for several years – and spoils them with typical dishes. Manuela Zibana is responsible for them: She’s not only the owner but also the chef at the Locanda Mistral.

In 1999, Manuela’s parents turned the former farmhouse into a small accommodation, which was extended by Manuela and her husband Renato in 2008 and has been successfully managed since then.
For me sustainability means…
“To keep the Maira Valley alive in the future.”
I am particularly proud of this green project at Locanda Mistral:
„We have implemented waste separation, even though the local administration has not yet managed to do so. I am also proud of our new heating system and the water-saving measures we are implementing at Locanda Mistral.”
This is what makes the Locanda Mistral so special:
“We are local, tradition-conscious, familiar and embedded in nature.”
That’s what we plan for the future…
“We want to continue to push innovative ideas so that the Occitan culture and the history of the valley are preserved.”
