Have you ever heard of Friuli or even been there yourself? Recently we discovered a very special hotel in the northern Italian wine region, which we would like to introduce to you today.

What used to be a youthful, almost naive dream when Josko and Loredana Sirk were newly married in the 80s is today the idyllic country resort La Subida. A place surrounded by the vineyards and woods of the Collio Goriziano, on the border between Italy and Slovenia.

With a lot of passion, traditional materials from the region and love for nature, the Sirk family has created a modern oasis of well-being in the middle of the forest. Their first houses “Della Nonna” – which translated means “from grandma” – remind of a small farming village and live up to their name. Warm terracotta tones, as well as natural wood, radiate a cozy and rustic charm so that you really feel at home like at grandmas.

Relaxation in the houses within the forest

You would like to experience a particularly quiet and natural holiday? Then the somewhat remote “Case del Bosco” are perfect for you. The name alone – “Houses of the Forest” – tells you that here you are in the middle of nature. Each house has a glass wall extending from floor to ceiling, which allows an unobstructed view of the countryside. The feeling of being a part of this wonderful nature unfolds immediately, the view calms and decelerates. The owners affectionately call these accommodations “houses where the curtains are replaced by treetops”.

You want your accommodation to be exceptional? In the “Kosovic accommodation” you will stay in a four-poster bed made of organic wood and your apartment is modeled after a classic Slovakian barn. So that the real barn experience is not missed out, the smell of hay and the snorting of the horses are included. 🙂

Eating together and enjoying the Friulian way of life

At La Subdia you will find variety not only in the accommodation but also in the culinary offer. Whether the “Osteria” or the Michelin star awarded “Trattoria al Cacciatore”, the two in-house restaurants offer an exciting mixture of traditional Italian and Slovenian dishes. Always important: the use of regional and seasonal ingredients. The dishes are perfectly complemented by the excellent white wines and full-bodied red wines for which the region is famous. In no case will you stay hungry here.

A touch of luxury

The Sirk family has managed to give a certain noblesse to the rather local cuisine with its rural origins. Both locals and guests from all over the world come together here and do what they love to do in Italy: have a good time together while enjoying good food.

Discover the Italian nature

Around La Subida, excursions in nature, to the vineyards and to the nearby sea attract visitors. There are many possibilities: walks in the woods, bike excursions with the sunny yellow rental bikes on the routes of the “Slow Collio” or guided nature and hiking tours. If you want to really enjoy the Italian feeling, rent a Vespa and ride it through the surrounding villages – with the wind in your face you almost feel like you’re in a movie!

After an exciting day, you can relax with holistic massages or take an herbal bath in an antique bathtub surrounded by man-high grass under the open sky – one of our absolute highlights!
