South Tyrol and Trentino are great destinations for nature lovers all year round. If you are planning an active vacation with hiking, MTB, and e-bike, or a skiing vacation, the region is perfect! The landscape is dominated by the Alps, in particular the Dolomites, which have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for their uniqueness and beauty. We would like to introduce you to six sustainable hotels in South Tyrol and Trentino that are not only “eco” but also luxurious, special, and individual.

Sustainable Hotels in South Tyrol – The right choice for Everyone

Each of our sustainable Green PearlsⓇ is unique. Whether you are traveling as a couple, a family with children, or alone, whether you prefer to swim or hike, whether you follow a vegan diet or not – we have the right accommodation for your interests and needs!

To make it easier for you to find the right hotel for you, we have divided the hotels into different “award” categories. ☺️

Best Hotel for Couples & Luxury: ADLER Lodge RITTEN

In the 20 wooden chalets of ADLER Lodge RITTEN you can enjoy wonderful privacy as a couple – you even have your own sauna! The chalets are grouped around a small natural pond or follow the natural lines of the landscape, giving you an unobstructed view of the rugged slopes of the Dolomites. There is also a main house and an annex with suites. ADLER Lodge RITTEN is located on the sunny Ritten plateau, surrounded by woods and overlooking a breathtaking mountain panorama. The atmosphere is luxurious yet relaxed.

  • Wellness: There is a heated panoramic pool with brine water, three saunas, and four treatment rooms. There is also a yoga and Pilates program. Chalets and some suites have private saunas.
  • Active Program: Two professional hiking and biking guides (Klaus and Dominik) will accompany you on easy or challenging tours. Popular tours include a hike to the Earth Pyramids (a natural wonder from the Ice Age) or a bike tour to the Rittner Horn.
  • Culinary: A special feature is the all-inclusive offer. All prices and meals are included in the price of the overnight stay. The open kitchen concept allows you to look over the shoulder of Chef Hannes Pignater and his team as they prepare lunch and afternoon snacks and delicacies using regional ingredients. Fruit and water are available throughout the day, cakes are served in the afternoon, and a multi-course dinner will delight you in the evening at the Panorama Restaurant.

The best family hotel with a swimming lake: Hotel Weihrerhof

The family-run Hotel Weihrerhof is also located on the Ritten, directly on Lake Wolfsgruben, one of the cleanest bathing lakes in Italy. The rooms smell of natural wood, thanks to the essential oils of pine wood. The hotel is very child-friendly and offers cots, a playground, children’s fishing, a children’s sauna, and a wide range of services.

  • Wellness: indoor swimming pool with counter-current system, sauna in the boathouse, and wellness treatments with in-house natural cosmetics.
  • Active program: rental of e-bikes and helmets, hiking backpack, and packed lunch for your hikes and rowing boats on the lake.
  • Culinary: Breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the playground or on the breakfast island in the lake. South Tyrolean delicacies await you in the restaurant.

The best hotel for bee lovers: APIPIURA Hotel Rinner

A very special hotel is the APIPIURA hotel rinner. It is run by the Rinner family, and the owner, Paul Rinner, is a passionate beekeeper. Guests report that he not only knows a lot about bees – he knows EVERYTHING about them! As an itinerant beekeeper, he takes his colonies to different locations to produce a variety of honey (the honey is certified organic!). The whole hotel is designed with bees in mind (honeycombs, bee symbols, etc.).

  • Wellness: In the lobby of the APIPIURA Hotel you will find the unique “Api Wellness” (Api comes from the Latin word “Apis” = bee). Here you sit on comfortable chairs and breathe the air of the beehive through a mask. A beehive is known to be a source of health. It contains wax, propolis, pollen, essential oils, and honey, the air of which, according to the Rinner family, increases well-being. In 2023, the therapy was expanded to include sounds from the beehive.
  • Active program: direct access to the hiking world of Ritten and South Tyrol, special children’s program.
  • Culinary: Rich breakfasts with a wide selection of homemade organic honey 🙂 In addition, the restaurant serves lunch and dinner with regional cuisine and herbs from the hotel’s own herb garden.

Best hotel for vegans: LA VIMEA

In 2016, Italy’s first all vegan hotel opened – our Green PearlsⓇ partner LA VIMEA! Not only are the food and drinks completely free of animal products, but the entire interior is also free of animal products (no leather, no furs, and certainly no stuffed animal heads!).

  • Wellness: There is a yoga program every morning, as well as meditation and forest bathing. Various wellness treatments (e.g. Ayurveda) are also available. Swimming in the saltwater pool and natural pond.
  • Active program: e-bike rental at the hotel and many hiking trails to mountain lakes or the Texel Group Nature Park, which start directly from the hotel.
  • Culinary delights: 100% vegan! Even (or especially) if you don’t normally eat vegan, you’ll be inspired by the creative possibilities of the plant world.

Best hotel for a sustainable ski vacation: Paradiso Pure.Living

In the Dolomites, on the Alpe di Siusi, there’s another Green PearlsⓇ hotel where the cuisine is 100 percent meet-free: Paradiso Pure.Living. After a stay that includes yoga twice a day, a plant-based diet, and fresh air, you’ll feel healthier, more relaxed, and simply better.

The hotel has a summer and winter season. When it comes to skiing, Alpe di Siusi tries to offer a sustainable ski vacation. By the way: The new summer season starts on June 16th, 2023!

  • Wellness: 7 days a week sunrise and sunset yoga, indoor saltwater pool, outdoor saltwater whirlpool, Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, steam bath, and a “Zerobody Floating EXperence” capsule (this is a mixture of weightlessness and music. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to try it out yet 🙂 )
  • Active program: The hotel is located right on the ski slope! In summer there are many hiking trails on the Alpe di Siusi.
  • Culinary: The vegan-vegetarian food is not only tasty but also healthy. (For the vegan breakfast hit Hummus, we have just published the recipe from Paradiso Pure.Living).

Best family hotel in Trentino: Eco Park Hotel Azalea

The autonomous region of Trentino is located south of South Tyrol and stretches from the Dolomites to Lake Garda. Eco Park Hotel Azalea is located between Bolzano and Trento, in the center of Cavalese. The beautiful mountain region offers many activities. For families there are special “family rooms” and children can enjoy programs like night walks or mini studio.

  • Wellness: eco-spa with various massage treatments (e.g. crystal massage, Chinese cupping). The essential oils come from a regional company and are made from local herbs.
  • Active program: yoga and meditation classes, self-massage, guided walks, Nordic walking – in winter skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
  • Culinary: pure (almost vegan) plant-based cuisine. Organic produce from the local area is preferred, and the flour comes from a traditional Italian mill. Herbal teas are homemade.
