Almost two years ago I stayed at the OCÉANO on Tenerife and thinking back, I still start to gush! Since then a lot has changed at the hotel —here we present the changes that await you.
Arriving at the OCÉANO, I immediately felt comfortable: the courteous staff in the hotel, the fantastic location with the Atlantic coast on one side and the Anaga Mountains on the other side (plus the view of Tenerife’s Volcano El Teide), the pleasant climate of the Canaries – pure relaxation! The hotel’s facade was typical for hotel buildings from the 60s and 70s: a rather tall tower, which offers many balconies with sea view but not necessarily built in harmony with the local nature. However, preserving and restoring is often more sustainable than tearing down and building anew, so in recent decades the OCÉANO has been developed and rebuilt step by step — both conceptually and structurally.
In the lobby, the hotel showed its coziest face and whether in the garden or the restaurant with terrace, in the reading room or on my balcony, I felt at home everywhere. 2019 was an important year as the OCÉANO adapted the facade to its concept as well as to the local environment.

“Our modern, holistic concept is reflected also in the redesign of the hotel,” says hotel owner Karl Matthias Rolle. This becomes obvious, for example, in the new façade, which is slightly corrugated making the connection with the ocean even more visible. There is also a new roof terrace with yoga space (yoga with a sea view!). And the rooftop lounge ‘Ocean 11’. Or you relax in the stunning new seawater infinity pool in the garden or be active in the new Center of Healthy Motion (COHM) with its gym, yoga and meeting room.

Old and new perfectly combined
Big changes like this rise risks: How do the regulars react to the changes? Which offers and activities must be maintained, which must be renewed or even replaced? In addition to the many novelties, the proven concept of wellness and health tourism was retained and further expanded. You can still participate in F. X. Mayr cures and do fasting supported by doctors and therapists. Yet you can also just spend a super relaxing vacation with lots of wellness time and explore Tenerife.

And what about sustainability?
Sustainability has always been the core value for the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa, and of course, it is ongoing. Only natural and eco-friendly building materials were used for restoration and energy-saving technologies were implemented. For guests, there are also further noticeable changes, like the water tap stations, with which you can refill your returnable bottle for free. Do not worry, if you do not have one with you: At the beginning of your stay, the hotel will lend you a returnable bottle. The food will continue to be sourced locally from Tenerife, additionally, the restaurant now only offers local wines as well.
With the reopening another exciting project has started: in cooperation with the German association Bergwaldprojekt e.V., the hotel will plant one tree per guest who has booked through their website. The association works together with volunteers throughout Germany to protect and preserve the forest.
Since October 19th, the “new” OCÉANO Hotel is now open and I cannot wait to visit the hotel and Tenerife again and see the changes with my own eyes! Of course, I will take you with me 🙂
