Even though my semester abroad is already five years ago, right now, where we have to stay at home and the shops and cafes are closed, I long for the hustle and bustle of Cluj – or Klausenburg, which is the German name. In the heart of Transylvania, you not only find events and culinary diversity everywhere but also clubs and bars surrounded by a beautiful landscape. 

My favorite place for a good start in the day is “Studio 26” on Strada Piezișă. Order a fresh “Limonada cu menta”, sit down in one of the red chairs or on the couch on the first floor and watch the people through the window as they are strolling from café to café. If you want to see and experience Romanian nature, it is best to go hiking in Cheile Turzi outside the city. During rainy days, the path through the canyon is a little slippery, but as soon as you arrive on the other side, you’re surrounded by a beautiful landscape. If you take the time and have the energy walk up the hill, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view. 

It is worthwhile to have a stopover at Salina Turda: Underneath the surface, you can not only see impressive walls marked by salt and breathe the salty air, which is really good for your health. But can you imagine going for a boat ride while being underground? I am sure you are going to enjoy it!
