On peak days, hundreds of people flocked to the spot simultaneously. The result was destroyed vegetation, a network of trails stretching for miles through the protected area, and massive strain on sensitive natural habitats. The national park administration finally closed the area completely to visitors.

The “Instagram Grumpen” will definitely remain closed until October 2026. According to the National Park Service, a panel of experts will then decide if the natural environment has recovered enough to reopen.

Within a few months, a quiet natural spot can turn into an international hotspot.
